A decade after the original movie was released, a sequel has now officially been announced for 'Attack The Block' and John Boyega is once again set to star.
When 'Attack The Block' debuted back in 2011 John Boyega was relatively unknown in the film industry, his role as Moses in the 'Attack The Block' being one of his first major movie performances. However, 10 years later Boyega now stands as a BAFTA and Golden Globe award winning actor, known across the globe for his stand-out performances in the likes of 'Star Wars' and more recently 'Small Axe.'
The sequel to the much-loved sci-fi comedy is now officially underway and will see John Boyega reunite with the films original writer and director Joe Cornish. 'Attack The Block' was also the kickstart to Cornish's career in the film industry and marked his directorial debut. The film then went on to receive a BAFTA nomination, Audience Awards at SXSW and the Los Angeles Film Festival and cult classic status in years that followed, despite initially not being a huge hit at the box office. Joe Cornish has since worked on major productions such as Marvel's 'Ant-Man.'
The original movie 'Attack The Block' followed the story of a group of teenagers from South London who had to battle it out with a number of intergalactic creatures who were trying to take over their neighbourhood.
The plot of the sequel however is yet to be announced but what we do know is that Boyega will be stepping back into his role of Moses as well as co-producing the film with Cornish. When speaking about revisiting the role John shared "Moses has remained one of my favourite characters to play and bringing him back is a huge honour.”
Boyega also took to Instagram to share his excitement, writing "Yes Attack the Block 2 is happening! Yes I’ll be starring and producing! Yes I’m bloody excited ! London VS them tings."
In a statement discussing the upcoming release directer/writer/producer Joe Cornish also shared his excitement, sharing “I’m thrilled we’re officially announcing our return to the world of Attack the Block on the 10th anniversary of the film’s release. I can’t wait to work alongside John again, bringing audiences an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action.”
The release date for 'Attack The Block 2' still remains a mystery but in the meantime if you haven't already or if you want to revisit the excitement, be sure to check out the original film!
