Militant Tee & DJ Shabz Receive The Next Two CFM Awards

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

As even more of our team at Croydon FM celebrate their 2 year anniversary its only right we give them the chance to share their best bits with you all. This week Militant Tee and Shabz were given their Croydon FM awards to honour 2 years of service and dedication and below you'll find what they had to say about their experiences so far.

What made you join Croydon FM?

Militant Tee: "Being a radio presenter for a good few years, on visiting the Croydon food festival back in 2018, by chance I came across Croydon Fm that we’re supplying the music at that time. I then thought that this will be a great opportunity to work on a radio station and represent the community where I was born an bred. Upon meeting the founder of CFM I was asked to email a demo over which I sent off that same evening. From then the Boomblast show became part of the CFM schedule."

Shabz: "I've been a DJ for many years, the club and bar scene will usually expect sets with limitations. My show on CFM really allows me to dig deep and play what I’m feeling as opposed to what’s required."

Has being on Croydon FM opened any doors or allowed you to connect with people you wouldn’t have if it weren’t for the station?

Militant Tee: "Yes Croydon Fm has most definitely opened doors and allowed me to connect with people with whom I would never have met if not for the station. For example, I accompanied Clive and Phoebe to the Mayor of Croydon Civic Awards 2018 where I met some great people who I still have a relationship with up to this day."

Shabz: "Yes indeed, the response on my social media to being on a radio station is always well received and gets interaction. It has also allowed me to share my DJ knowledge through the Croydon FM Youth Project. I only wish I had some guidance of the music industry in my younger years. The Youth Project helps bridge that gap. Alongside interviews with Ill Blu, Tiny Boost & Mercston. Furthermore, its bagged me an awesome introduction with Phase nightclub in Croydon."

How does it feel to receive a Croydon FM award for completing 2 years at the station?

Militant Tee: "It’s a great honour to have received this award, and I personally think that it’s a fantastic way of the management showing their appreciation to the team."

Shabz: "I feel privileged to be part of the whole thing from the beginning, from believing in the concept to the point of being informed of the FM licence. I’m part of the family and its great."

How has your show evolved over the last 2 years?

Militant Tee: "The Friday Night Boomblast show has gathered a lot of pace over the last 2 years, due to me connecting with a lot of artist’s and producers worldwide enabling me to give them the platform to promote their music, this has allowed me to gain listeners from all around the globe."

Shabz: "My show switches as much as my mood, CFM allow me to have a platform to express my creativity without the boundaries. It's an ideal situation which leaves me humbled every time."

Whats your favourite thing about Croydon FM?

Militant Tee: "The thing I like most about Croydon Fm is the community spirit within the station, and the fact that it also caters for the teenagers in the community by introducing the Youth Project which I am proud to say that my daughter was given the opportunity to be a part of presenting a few shows."

Shabz: "The support among the entire CFM family, everyone is on standby to offer help and guidance whenever required."

Whats the biggest difference you’ve noticed about the station since you joined two years ago?

Militant Tee: "The biggest difference of when I joined the station 2 years ago til now is the growth of the team, and also how the management has elevated the station in such a short space of time, from an internet only station to being awarded the FM licence from Ofcom."

Shabz: "Nothing at all. Its so consistent! It gives me the energy I need to grow and develop myself and that is what I believe encourages others to develop further too. In all fairness I’m sure Mister C had hair when we started. Loooooooollllll."
