Stormzy Donates £500,000 To Fund Scholarships For Underprividlged Students

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Stormzy's Merky Foundation has pledged £500,000 to the Black Heart Foundation to provide young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with scholarships to College or University.

Stormzy announced earlier this year that he would be giving money to organisations, charities and movements helping to tackle racial inequality in the UK. The Black Heart Foundation is the first amongst many to receive part of the British rap sensation's pledge of £10 million over the next 10 years to help support and strengthen the Black community.

Founder of the Black Heart Foundation Ric Lewis commented: "Their contribution is an amazing testament to their vision and commitment to higher and further education for ambitious, hard-working young people from the most under-resourced and under-represented communities in our society." He also stated that as a result of the donation 50 more students will now have access to scholarships, making the total number of scholars they can help to 250.

Stormzy also has his own scheme entitled 'Stormzy Scholarships' where he annually awards two scholarships to 2 Black students hoping to attend the University of Cambridge, paying their tuition fees and a considerable living expense grant.

Stormzy's generous donation to the Black Heart Foundation has enabled to provide even more opportunities to young people in need, however, they are still hoping to hit their original crowdfunding target of £500,000 on Just Giving and are matching any money given pound-for-pound.
