The Long-Awaited Trailer For 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' Has Finally Been Released

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Yesterday the long-awaited trailer for the movie 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' was released, much to fans delight.

After years of anticipation it's not long before fans will be able to watch the sequel to the original 1996 movie 'Space Jam.' It was confirmed back in September 2018 that the much-loved film would see a modern remake and finally the first trailer has been released. Check it out below...

The film, entitled 'Space Jam: A New Legacy', will star NBA Basketball player and sporting legend LeBron James. In his first major acting role, James will be taking over from Michael Jordan, who played the starring role in the original film. When speaking on taking over from Michael Jordan, James expressed his adoration for the fellow sporting legend, saying "It's something Mike created and is his. I held that with a lot of responsibility. In my younger days, part of my thinking was Space Jam was so good, how can I top this?"

Sharing his excitement for the release of the upcoming movie, James previously shared how he'd "just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don't just give up on their dreams." He also added that he thinks Ryan Coogler "did that for a lot of people" in the 2018 hit 'Black Panther.'

Another exciting cast announcement includes Emmy-winning actress Zendaya, who is set to voice the character of Lola Bunny. The fans-favourite character spiked controversy across social media earlier this year after many criticised the sexualisation of the cartoon character. Since then the character undertook a redesign, director Malcolm D. Lee explaining that he wanted the new design of Lola Bunny to "reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters."

The action packed family comedy sees LeBron plummet into a virtual universe containing a number of characters from the Warner Bros studio. LeBron then enlists the help of Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Toons to win an epic basketball match in order to rescue his Son and return safely home.

'Space Jam: A New Legacy' is set for release on the 16th July across cinemas in the US. It's then said to be coming out in the UK shortly after, supposedly premiering on the 23rd.
