Updated: Jun 22, 2021

On July 21st the UK launched its first-ever official Afrobeats chart which is set to be announced every Sunday at 2pm.

Last week we saw the six-piece group NSG bag the first number one ever on the charts with their track 'Grandad.'

Shortly after it was announced the group took to twitter to show their gratitude, writing "We really appreciate this, we’ve been pushing the Afrobeat movement from our very first song we released ‘Whine and Kotch Afrobeat Remix’ and hard work and consistency does pay off, BIG UP WIZKID who is one of our biggest inspirations and shoutout DARKOO the future superstar."

A playlist of the UK's top 20 Afrobeats artists over the past 12 months was also curated which includes some of the hottest musicians of the moment such as Burna Boy, Young T & Bugsey, Not3s and J Hus who was awarded the top spot.

Over the last few years Afrobeats has seen a huge surge in popularity and is now known for its vibrant and innovative sounds all over the world.

The launch of the chart will give the opportunity for Afrobeats artists to have their voices heard on a wider platform and will help to open up the genre of music to new audiences, finally giving both the artists and the genre the recognition they deserve.
