After a two year break the MOBO Awards are back!
The MOBO Awards, an award show celebrating music of Black origin and culture, is back for the first time since 2017 this December. It is set to air on the 9th December on both Youtube and BBC One with Maya Jama returning to host the ceremony alongside Musician and Entertainer Chunkz.
The 90 minute show is set to be live-streamed at 7pm (GMT) on YouTube for the very first time, followed by a broadcast on BBC One at 10:45pm. BBC 1Xtra will also be covering the event, starting on Sunday the 6th with a talk show hosted by Richie Brave which will look back at the history of the MOBO Awards and discuss how the Urban music scene has progressed since MOBO's first began 24 years ago. DJ Target will also be involved, dedicating his entire show on the 9th to the award ceremony, which will feature a number of exclusive performances and guest interviews from this years nominees.
It was announced back in 2018 that the award show needed a short break in order to "bring the platform to brand new heights" so it's safe to say after a two year hiatus, fans will be expecting big things from this years ceremony. However, in an attempt to make up for lost time an extra category has been added to this years awards dedicated to the best album between 2017 and 2019 which features the likes of Dave, Kano, Ella Mai, Skepta, Nines and Little Simz.
Rapper Nines has lead this years nominations after being up for a total of 5 categories, including album of the year for 'Crabs In A Bucket.' You can read more about Nines' number 1 album right here on the CFM blog, simply click here. Other artists who have managed to secure multiple nominations this year also include singers Lianne La Havas, Mahalia and Tiana Major9 who are all triple nominees. And, you can our very own Sashi interviewing Tiana Major9 tomorrow on her show 'Hidden SNDS' from 5-7pm right here on Croydon FM.
